5-5-5 Rule

The 5-5-5 postpartum recovery rule is a great way to bond with your new baby and family. It can also help you recover safely, avoid postpartum injuries or things like depression, anxiety, clogged milk ducts by following this simple plan that consists of 5 days in bed; 5 days on the bed (or couch)and 5 days around the bed. This may look different for everyone but I find my own clients' experience helped them to be more successful at sticking strictly according to these guidelines when they first welcome their new baby home.

5 days in the bed

It's a perfect time for you to catch up on some much needed rest and relaxation. Your body has been through an incredible journey, so why not give it what it needs? You can practice skin-to-skin bonding with your baby while breastfeeding! Give yourself permission to enjoy pampering throughout this postpartum stage.

5 days on the bed

You can now start to sit up and do things on the bed! You should continue having skin-to-skin time with your baby as this will help release oxytocin hormones that are necessary for bonding, breastfeeding or if you have an older child it’s a great way of spending quality one on ones while not overdoing things.

5 days around the bed

When you're feeling up to it, get out of bed and move around! It's important that you start taking care of yourself now more than ever. Standup activity can be therapeutic so if possible do only a few light chores like folding laundry or doing other activities near your bed while standing only 30 minutes at time - listen closely to what feels good on both physical AND mental levels before starting chores or activities.

Postpartum doula’s can help with all sorts of post-delivery needs, including making sure you're getting enough rest. The 5-5 -5 rule is an excellent way to ensure that your body and mind are being cared for after giving birth!

A great option is looking for a postpartum doula. Check out the link below if you are interested in having a postpartum doula. I can't emphasize how helpful they are in your first few weeks with your newborn.
