The benefits of having a dedicated postpartum Doula are immense. A good example would be the support they offer to new parents, who can find themselves feeling overwhelmed by their responsibilities or uncertain about how best to handle all that comes with being a new parent. Not only does this help moms feel prepared; it also gives them peace-of-mind knowing someone else has got things under control while Mom takes care of getting back on her feet.

A good post-delivery care plan can include daytime or overnight assistance from an experienced professional who will provide information, advice & ‘on the job’ training for new parents.

Your doula is like having a personal trainer at work. You don't expect to start your new job without someone there who has done this before, and they will be able to guide you through the process from day one so that it's easier on both of you!

Proudly serving the Greater Victoria BC area.

How your Postpartum Doula can support you:

  • Practical, hands on tools for new parents.

  • Someone to discuss your birth experience with who really wants to hear how you feel about it.

  • Baby care techniques such as different burping positions, quick ways to change baby and walk you through various ways to bathe your baby.

  • Partners are given suggestions on how to be supportive during this time of transition and healing.

  • Becoming a parent can be difficult emotionally, I’m there to listen to how you are feeling and give you guidance.

  • Hands on support and tips for feeding your baby.

  • Extra set of hands to allow parents the ability to shower or grab a nap.

  • Spend time with baby so parents can sleep or spend quality time with older children.

  • Nighttime can be a challenge for new parents; Overnight postpartum doula support can allow parents to get sleep and reassurance during this time.

  • Throw in a load of laundry for you or do light tidy up so you can focus on your baby, and as a professional organizer, I can also rearrange your closets for easier access or organize cupboards if you’d like.

  • Meal preparation and making sure mom is eating well and taking care of herself so she can take care of baby.

“Amy was/ is my doula. She has shown up for my family in the biggest way possible. Her postpartum care has been immeasurably valuable. Nothing is too much for her and she just seems to intuitively know what needs to be done and how to help in such a way that fits in with your family. She also takes amazing photos and has many skills that can contribute to integration and healing after birth. Trust me when I say that everyone needs an Amy.”

“As a first time mom I can’t imagine my experience without Amy. I hired Amy for her postpartum service. Amy came to our house the day we came home from the hospital and as new parents we were deer in headlights - she knew exactly what to do. Amy helped us SO much, from breastfeeding, to watching the baby so we could nap, and keeping me fed/hydrated. This was one of the best services to receive as new parents and I would HIGHLY recommend this to any new mom. Amy is such a calm, warm, and loving person she made us feel so comfortable. Her knowledge paired with her beautiful soul guided us onto the new parent path beautifully.”

“We hired Amy as postpartum doula and she went above and beyond to help me heal and recover after my c section.  She helped us with countless things around the house such as taking out garbage, folding laundry, changing sheets, etc. She also helped us with our babies first bath and gave us great strategies and advice in our first few weeks as new parents.  She would also help take care of baby so we could have a shower or have a bite to eat.  Her expertise and hard work were very much appreciated and we would highly recommend her services!”

“There truly aren't enough good words to describe my experience with Amy. She was a lifeline when I needed one the most and the biggest support during a really trying postpartum journey. She was caring and compassionate, not only with my daughter, but with me as well. Her guidance and advice was always welcome and her willingness to support me in the ways I needed it the most was greatly appreciated. I couldn't imagine a better fit for me and my family. Amy's skill as a doula superceeds expectations and her warm and friendly demeanor were icing on the cake. I will be more than happy to have her help and support as long as possible.”

“Amy Joy Mistal was an absolute blessing to my pregnancy and birthing experience! She was so welcoming, wonderful, kind and knowledgeable. She got along so well with my partner and became part of our family during this time. Through laughs, tears and the depths of labour she stayed by my side making me feel held, safe and always supported! My labour was very lengthy & she stayed the entire journey by my side. I'll never forget the care and kindness I received from her. Whoever receives her care is blessed! Thank you Amy!”

“Amy went above and beyond to support Carlos and I to prepare to welcome Elijah into our lives. She gave us peace of mind leading up to his birth and provided us with exceptional support afterwards. There were days that I didn’t know I needed her support until she arrived and I was so thankful to see her, ask her questions, and have her guidance on breast feeding and to have a nap! Amy has a special way with little ones. Elijah was so calm in her arms for hours. Words can’t say how grateful we are.”

“Amy was an amazing doula - she was our birth and postpartum doula. My birth definitely did not go according to plan as I ended up have a home birth (I was suppose to have a VBAC at a hospital). Thankfully everything was okay and Amy was a calming presence during the entire birth. Amy was also excellent during my postpartum period. She knew exactly what we needed before even asking. She toddler to the park so we could get some quiet time (and it helped my toddler feel special too). She also made sure my water bottle was filled, made sure my husband and I both ate, tidied up the place, threw clothes in the laundry and cleared up my nursing stations. And paid attention to how our home functions. All the little things. Just amazing! It was so relaxing to have someone help me exactly how I needed it. Thank you so much Amy for everything!! You were such a special pet of this birth experience. “

Amy has been such a gift during our postpartum period. She has the sweetest energy and at the same time enters your home to get things done. She truly has incredible work ethic and it amazes me how much she can get done in a few hours. She has supported us by making meals, cleaning and organizing (she is absolutely gifted in organization), laundry, and caring for baby while I shower and get a little bit of time to care for myself. I really think every mama deserves postpartum support and if you are thinking of doing it, do it! Postpartum is such a beautiful, vulnerable, tiring, sacred time and if you can have someone support you with home care then you can really soak in rest when it is possible. I highly recommend Amy for postpartum care and also for her organization skills!

Amy is an absolute angel, and words can’t fully express our gratitude for the incredible care and support she provided during the first months of our baby’s life. From the moment we came home, Amy became an essential part of our family. I truly don’t think I could have survived those early, challenging days without her.

We had a colicky baby who often cried for hours, and Amy brought a calm, kind, and level-headed presence that became our saving grace. There were days I felt completely overwhelmed, and Amy was there with open arms—literally and figuratively. She would give me a much-needed hug, take the baby, and let me rest, knowing he was in the best possible hands.

Amy’s care extended far beyond just soothing cries. She actively engaged with our baby, helping him learn and reach new milestones in a gentle, encouraging way. Her dedication to his progress and well-being was evident in everything she did. She wasn’t just a doula; she was a teacher, a nurturer, and a steadfast pillar of support for our entire family.

Amy’s presence brought a sense of peace to a chaotic time, and her kindness and expertise were invaluable. She not only supported our baby but also nurtured me as a new mom, always ensuring I felt cared for, rested, and capable. Amy is truly one of a kind, and we’re beyond blessed to have had her by our side. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and we can’t recommend her highly enough to any family navigating the postpartum period.

Thank you, Amy, for everything—you are truly family to us.
